世界月經日始於2014年由德國非政府組織WASH United發起，由於女性平均經期長度5天，月經週期平均28天，因此將每年的這天訂為世界月經日，呼籲社會大眾關注女性月經及衛生議題。
今年5月28日桃園市政府社會局為消弭月經貧窮及破除月經汙名化，與民政局攜手中壢仁海宮及社團法人全球小紅帽協會合作辦理「世界月經日倡議活動」，同時也串聯桃園在地6間香火鼎盛廟宇，包含中壢仁海宮、中壢慈惠堂、桃園護國宮太子廟、桃園八德龍山寺、桃園龍德宮、大溪蓮座山觀音寺等共同簽署成為桃園月經友善廟宇，於廟宇女廁、服務台設置「衛生棉貼心盒」，讓正值經期且有急用需求的女性香客可以安心取用。
此外，社會局積極推動月經平權服務，持續攜手社團法人全球小紅帽協會辦理「經期自我照顧參訪活動」、「專業人員培力講座」及「招募月經友善店家」，今年更擴大招募至少50家月經友善店家，以願意借廁所、提供溫熱飲、生理用品(衛生棉及護墊)及熱敷袋之貼心服務。另於本市27家安家實物銀行免費提供衛生棉、護墊等生理用品，擴大照顧弱勢女性外，並優先於本市13個區公所及51處社福館舍女廁設置「衛生棉貼心盒」，今年預計設置達100處，讓桃園成為性別平等、月經友善幸福城市！
